Also, will I have to do any computer work as well? and if so, how will I be able to do that, and whats a good tuner with good tunes. Mitsubishi . How to Know When a Car Needs a Fuel FilterWhen you pump gas into your car's tank, you may also be pumping in small particles of debris. Sometimes, debris may be present simply because your tank's walls are starting to flake. The fuel filter's job is to filter out the debris. Over time, the fuel filter will become clogged, and less fuel will be able to pass through it. When this happens, the fuel filter needs to be replaced. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Fuel filter Step by Step : 1 Replace your fuel filter at least every two years or 24,000 miles, according to Edmunds.com, even if you do not notice any obvious signs that it needs to be replaced. You can also check your car's owner manual for recommendations specific to your make and model. 2 Observe your car's performance. If the fuel filter is clogged, the engine may sputter, particularly at highway speeds, because its fuel can't flow properly. 3 Evaluate whether your car has been stalling. Stalling could also mean a clogged fuel filter. 4 Start your car. Cars that hesitate to start may need a new fuel filter. If the filter is completely clogged, your car may not start at all. The fuel filter on the 1991 GMC Sonoma inside of the frame rail between the driver side cab and the fuel tank on the driver side. The fuel filter is inside of a round plastic bracket. 3 Loosen the fuel lines that are going into the fuel filter with a 5/8 wrench. Put the 5/8 wrench on the hex head of the fuel line and turn the hex head counter clockwise to loosen the fuel line. Slide the fluid catch pan under the fuel filter before completely removing the lines from the fuel filter. Finish unscrewing the fuel lines from the fuel filter and let the little bit of excess fuel run into the catch pan. 4 Slide the fuel filter out of the round plastic bracket. If needed, bump the fuel filter with your hand to loosen it from the plastic bracket. Discard the old fuel filter into the fluid catch pan. Then slide the fuel filter out of the bracket. Slide the new fuel filter in the plastic bracket with the flow arrow pointing towards the engine. 5 Screw both of the fuel lines back into the fuel filter. Insert the fuel lines into each end of the fuel filter and turn the hex heads clockwise to tighten. Then take the 5/8 wrench and tighten the fuel lines down so that each line is very tight. Then slide the fluid catch pan out from under the truck. 6 Screw the gas cap back on the engine. Then turn the ignition key on and off three different times to prime the fuel filter. Then crank the engine. 7 Inspect the fuel filter and fuel lines for leaks while the engine is running. Then turn the engine off. Tips & Warnings The flow arrow on the fuel filter represents the flow of the fuel through the fuel filter. The arrow must point towards the engine and away from the gas tank. True, you have to tell your car when to go and when to stop, and you have to steer it in the proper direction and keep it in good running order, but any vehicle is basically a set of wheels with an engine to turn them. The internal combustion engine, which still forms the "heart" of most vehicles, is a lightweight, fairly efficient, and relatively uncomplicated piece of machinery. It works on a mixture of gasoline and air to produce enough power to turn a shaft that turns the wheels. The basic gizmos on your car are simply the things that bring the fuel and air together in the proper quantities, ignite them, and channel the resulting power to the wheels. All the rest of the stuff is there to make this happen with ease and efficiency, to provide you with some control over what's going on, and to give you a place to sit and to stow your groceries. For a look at the future, check out the alternatively fueled vehicles described in Chapter 7. Part II: What Makes It Go?.
